Kilbeggan Distillery near Tullamore in the Center of Ireland had been run by the local Locke Family before it ceased operation in the 1950’s.

It was resurrected as part of the Colley Whiskey project by Dr. John Teeling in the early part of this century, before being sold along with Cooley Distillery to Beam Suntory in recent years.

今天, the old distillery is a whiskey visitor center and fully functioning micro-distillery with two copper pot stills, one of which is believed to be the oldest operating pot still in Ireland.

This is one of my favourite whiskey visitor centers to visit on 爱尔兰威士忌之旅 as it is like stepping back in time to the day the old distillery closed its doors in the 1950s.

The site still contains a working water wheel and steam engine as well as remnants of an original Coffey Still.

不幸, the standard tour omits many fascinating details of interest to a true whiskey history buff or aficionado, such as the old First World War style hangar which now serves as the main distillery warehouse.
