Michael Collins Single Malt Irish Whiskey is a 10 year old malt whiskey made from peated and unpeated barley by the Cooley distillery. The brand was named after the iconic Irish war of Independence leader General Michael Collins who was killed at the age of 32 in the ensuing Irish Civil War. Michael Collins whiskey is no longer being made and is therefore rapidly becoming a collectors item especially amongst Irish whiskey and Irish history fans who view it as collectable because of the Michael Collins label. Although primarily a marketing concoction for the American Irish Whiskey market, it also happens to be a rather good example of a lightly peated Irish Malt Whiskey which makes it also quite collectable as a whiskey in its own right.
Michael Collins Single Malt Irish Whiskey Tasting Notes

- Finish: Quite a long finish with a nice warm smokey end.
Micchael Collins came from the town of Clonakilty in West Cork, quite close to where I grew up myself. He is a legendary Irish figure at home and abroad and that is why some whiskey marketeers decided to capitilise on the name by creating a brand for the American Irish Whiskey market. But Michael Collins Single Malt is more than just opportunistic branding. It also happens to be quite a good Irish Single Malt and is unusual that it also has some peated malt in the mix. Take my advice and lay down a few bottles for coming years. Normally, whiskey is collectable because it is rare. Top notch Pooka Five whiskeys, never become truly rare because they are too expensive to drink! But Michael Collins Single Malt is both collectable and drinkable because it is also affordable. That means that in 20 years time, there will not be many bottle left. Unless you buy some now!
