Ierse Whiskey proe in Kaïro
As those who follow me on social media @WhiskeyBlogger may have noticed, a few weeks ago I was invited to Cairo by Ambassador Seán O’Regan and the Embassy of Ireland in Egypt, om 'n praatjie oor die Ierse Whiskey en Ierse Whiskey Toerisme gee.
Our audience, invited by the Irish Embassy, is drawn from the Cairo Diplomatic, NGO, Business and Hospitality communities as well as a group of local food bloggers and tourism social-media influencers and members of the Cairo Whisky Club.
The event took the form of an Irish Whiskey Tasting evening at the 5 Star Conrad Cairo Hotel where we paired six Irish Whiskeys from Teeling Whiskey, Hyde Whiskey, Pearse Whiskey, Walsh Whiskey, Powers Whiskey and Redbreast Whiskey with a selection of artisan foods from West Cork including smoked salmon and duck, cheeses from Milleens and Gubbeen and Clonakilty Black Pudding.
The Whiskey card I created in partnership with the Irish embassy, was designed to appeal to both Irish Whiskey and whiskey beginners as well as experienced whiskey aficionados. I also wanted to represent the main Irish whiskey types of Blends, enkele Graan, single Malt, Single Pot Still and a Cask Strength Irish Whiskey.
The final whiskeys selected for the event were Teeling Small Batch Blended Irish Whiskey, Hyde 1916 Enkele Graan Ierse Whiskey, Pearse 5 Single Malt Ierse Whiskey, Reserve die Ier stigter se “Champagne Blend” Ierse Whiskey, Powers Three Swallow Single Pot Still Irish Whiskey and Redbreast 12 Cask Strength Irish Whiskey .
The Whiskey Tasting event was also a great opportunity to represent and showcase Irish Whiskey Tourism and the Dublin and Irish Whiskey Trails.
