Lockes Irish Whiskey

Lockes Irish Whiskey

Locke's Single Malt

Irish Whiskey

Lockes were the family that owned the Kilbeggan Irish Whiskey Distillery until it closed down in the 1950’s. Today, Locke’s original distillery in Kilbeggan is an Irish Whiskey Museum and Visitor Centre. They also have a fully working micro distillery. where visitors can see whiskey being made from grain to barrel. When Cooley whiskey bought the old Kilbeggan Distillery, it was no surprise when they decided to relaunch the old Locke’s Distillery label. Cooley are unique amongst Irish Whiskey Distilleries as they produce a variety of styles of whiskey including some which like Scotch Whiskey are lighly peated with a small amount of peated malt and only double distilled. Locke’s single malt is not a product of the micro distillery, but is actually made in the main Cooley distillery in County Louth.

Lockes Single Malt contains a small amount of peated malt whiskey and is made from malt whiskeys from eight to ten years old.

Stuart Says

It’s great to see the Old Irish Whiskey Distillery names such as Lockes being kept alive and especially when thename is also associated with an old distillery that has been brought back to life. Lockes 8 year old single malt is a very easy drinking whiskey and is unusual in that it is lightly peated and only double distilled. Is it Irish or is it Scotch. This is a question that I am still asking myself. All I know is that I always buy a bottle or two when I visit the Distillery.
